SQL Developer

Job Summary: We seek a sharp and eager engineer to join our team.

The mission of the SQL Developer is to be a technical expert on the IT team who will be responsible for analysis, design, development, and implementation of business intelligence reporting solutions, ETL processes, and overall data integrity. In addition, the SQL Developer will be engaging in various customer-facing tasks such as basic requirements-gathering and must be able to provide effective reporting solutions for presented issues. This role will involve daily communications with both IT & non-IT staff; therefore, ability to understand and clearly articulate oneself to the respective audience will be a necessary skillset. Providing technical guidance on a regular basis is also required. The candidate should have advanced-level SQL and BI skills, and will utilize a variety of tools across the BI stack, primarily within the Microsoft ecosystem.

In addition to technical skills, you must be a team player, a focused, motivated problem-solver, and diligent about maintaining development best-practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with migration of legacy reporting infrastructure over to Microsoft SQL Server
• Build efficient, parameterized SQL queries, table valued functions, common table expressions, and other advanced SQL constructs
• Build reports for business units across the organization
• Apply effective aesthetic report design to maximize informational value
• Supporting the conversion/migration effort of the application design team in building end-to-end LOB solutions
• Troubleshoot report performance
• Innovate to improve the company’s ability to rapidly deploy new report products and analytical tools in an environment of continual technological change and increasing end-user sophistication
• Develop a systematic approach to flexible reporting based on dynamic run-time conditions that minimizes amount of new report development for small changes in report functionality integrating technological improvements into a managed set of reporting products
• Implement best practices to reduce maintenance overhead and complexity
• Work with BI and application teams to identify potential improvements to data warehouse or enterprise application systems to better meet user analytical and reporting needs
• Coding to and/or creating Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
• Provide input on programming standards
• Perform unit testing and debugging. Set test conditions based upon code specifications. Able to debug most program errors (simple to complex)
• Work with .Net developers to support application requirements and optimize Entity Framework queries.

Required Experience:

• Strong relational database fundamentals
• Experience with data warehousing techniques and best-practices
• Breadth and depth of experience within the Microsoft BI ecosystem (Visual Studio SSDT, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS)
• In-depth proficiency with 1 or more presentation layer BI platforms (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos, Pentaho)
• Experience with OLAP, dimensional and tabular modeling languages (e.g., MDX, DAX)
• Proficiency with 1 or more scripting languages (e.g., Powershell, Ruby, Python, Perl)
• Experience with analyzing requirements from business users
• Experience with analyzing data integrity
• Experience with data modeling and database design
• Professional image and demeanor

Education and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience
• Ability to work under short deadlines and meet test schedules
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Team player with a positive work ethics
• Report design skills
• Proficiency with continuous integration process and best practices a plus
• Proficiency with a 3rd generation SCM (e.g. Git, Mercurial) a plus
• Financial / Accounting experience a plus
• Database administration skills a plus
• Familiarity/Experience/Understanding of C# a plus

Experience with auditing and temporal table design a plus
