SQL DBA Web Developer

The SQL DBA/Web Developer’s role is to manage the data the powers our products. The SQL DBA will work with Web Application Developers to acquire and manage all eCommerce data, and will architect, manage, tune and grow our MS SQL databases and web applications and web servers. The qualified candidate must have the skills needed to implement solutions web application technologies. The SQL DBA/Developer may also participate in design, development and maintenance of related hardware and software, Internet security and network communications as well as monitoring of existing resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish the needs of users and monitoring user access and security
  • Monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users
  • Map out the conceptual design for a planned database
  • Install and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS)
  • Adhere to standards
  • Write database documentation, including data standards and procedures
  • Control access permissions and privileges
  • Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans
  • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
  • Work closely with IT project managers, database programmers and multimedia programmers
  • Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
  • Commission and install new applications and customize existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose
  • Manage the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database.
  • Establish memory consumption baselines for all applications and maintain records
  • Cover a regular business hour shift with typical monthly after-hours necessary maintenance and occasional off-hours problem resolution

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of professional development experience.
  • Business awareness and understanding of business requirements of IT
  • Willingness to keep up to date with developments in new technology
  • Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Demonstrate excellent developer practices and be able to learn and grow with the organization.
  • Ability to independently prepare detailed database schemas, upgrade scripts, stored procedures, triggers.
  • Operational experience performing relational database upgrades and data migrations.
  • Practical experience with different database architectures and deployment models.
  • Ability to understand, diagnose and remedy performance issues in a production data system and web servers.
  • Experience with multi-branch development using version control systems such as MS Team Foundation.
  • Experience with all technical aspects of Internet technologies, protocols, and security: browsers, cookies, web servers, proxies, firewalls, sockets, HTTP/S, X509 certificates.
  • Experience with internet communication protocol standards such as SOAP, STAR, Username token and OASIS
  • Hands-on experience with application servers and web service standards as well as SOAP and XML technologies. Familiarity with the Auto Care Association’s IPO standards is desirable.
  • Experience with Virtual Machines, Microsoft Core Server 2016 and Powershell is desirable.
  • Demonstrate accountability and responsiveness and be available during odd hours.
