General Statement Of Duties: Represent the District in character costume at a variety of community events and activities. Create goodwill in the community. In order to attain the most professional representation of District, the character/mascot must be someone who shares the same spirit and enthusiasm for the District and community as District staff. Additionally the mascot will be trained to display the appropriate actions in different performance settings. A consistent mascot performance is also crucial to the professionalism displayed by the mascot. Performs other job-related duties or tasks as required

Distinguishing Features Of This Class : An employee in this classification is responsible for providing a positive image of the District through the District squirrel character by attending and performing at a variety of District services, activities, and events. They assist in the development of character persona. Assist as District character attendant when not in costume as the character. Work is performed under the supervision of the Events/Outdoor Recreation Supervisor. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of this classification.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge: Character and live performances, acting/dramatics.

Abilities: Work with sensitivity with community members of different abilities, ages and/or cultures; provide quality customer service interactions with community members; understand and follow oral and written instructions, have good public interaction skills.

Skills: Some experience as a character/mascot is preferred, but not required.

Experience And Training: Public performance experience, performing arts training, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above-mentioned duties.

Necessary Special Requirements : Possession of or ability to obtain current First Aid, CPR and AED certificates; possession of or ability to obtain valid Oregon driver’s license; safe driving record. Meet the physical demands of the position.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Hours/Shift: Shifts are offered for events and are not consistent but range between 4-10 hours per month.
