Solar PV CAD Designer (Entry to Advance Level)

We are looking for an outstanding CAD Designer to join our growing engineering team here in Austin.

Summary of Position:

The Solar PV CAD Designer will be responsible for creating Final Design Packets for our residential and commercial customers. Using AutoCAD this person will create panel layout drawings, electrical one-line drawings, and job cost estimates / feasibility studies for our residential and commercial projects. This person must be exceedingly well organized, flexible, work well in a team environment, and have the ability to multi-task under tight project timelines and will join a team of dedicated solar enthusiasts with an eye on keeping costs low while maximizing customer value.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the creation of 2D layouts for both residential construction documents and commercial permit design packets including panel layouts, and wire diagrams.
  • Works with the Engineer to plan and execute daily weekly design tasks related to the electrical and mechanical design documentation as required for our projects
  • Develop cost estimates of PV plants
  • Support project proposal development
  • Prepares technical and 3D models for residential and commercial solar PV systems using Aurora tools.
  • Works with the Engineer and Field Construction crew to troubleshoot in-field design and construction problems
  • Works with the Engineer and Field Construction Manager to integrate As-built construction information into our system design documentation set
  • Spends down-time maintaining our CAD standards and standard block library
  • Integral part of the design/construction team responsible for all Solar PV project delivery

Qualifications:

  • 2 years min. of Autocad drafting experience a must
  • Strong conceptual design skills preferred
  • Entry level NABCEP certification preferred

A background in solar is preferred but not necessary

  • You will be expected to work toward obtaining full NABCEP certification within one year of start date
  • Experience with Sketchup or any other type of 3D rendering/design software a plus
  • Willingness and ability to learn basic electric power design principles and power distribution wire diagram creation
  • Comfortable with working in a fast paced company and managing multiple design tasks at once
  • Willingness to learn and help manage project permit process for our residential and commercial solar projects
