Software Engineer – Linux Kernel

Cray is seeking a senior software engineer to work on the Core Operating Systems team to develop, debug & maintain all aspects of operating systems software that operates on our supercomputer systems. Team responsibilities include Linux kernel development,
power management, new processor bringup, and triage of all issues that occur on our systems.

Duties may include, but are not limited to (level of responsibility will be commensurate with skill/experience level):

· Collecting requirements and proposing design alternatives for OS extensions.

· Designing and/or implementing solutions for OS capabilities or subsystems.

Root cause analysis and resolution of OS related issues.

Experience & Education:

· BS in Computer Science or related area, plus 8 years’ related experience or an MS in Computer Science or related area plus 5 or more years’ related experience, or equivalent work experience.

· Deep understanding of & experience working with the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable distributed filesystems.

· High proficiency in C.

· Experience working with Linux is highly desired, including kernel, utilities, installation, administration, etc.

· An understanding of high performance computing architectures is highly desirable.

· Experience in operating system internals and software architecture methodologies is a plus.

· Experience in systems performance analysis and tuning is a plus.

· Demonstrated technical leadership is a plus.

· Completes tasks on time with and without supervision.

· Ability to work in a team environment with others of varying skill levels and also work well alone.

Excellent communication skills:

· Ability to communicate information and ideas so others can understand.

· Ability to write appropriate project documentation.
