Position Summary

The Software Engineer, Frontend will be responsible for developing, maintaining and optimizing the frontend experience of our web store across various browsers and platforms. This position will also offer the opportunity to work beyond the frontend, as there will be strong interactions with the backend application. You will be part of a small, rapidly growing team.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the overall design and architecture of the frontend codebase
• Participate in project planning efforts to coordinate frontend development work
• Collect feedback from stakeholders on site improvements and participate in work prioritization
• Design, code, and test new features in an independent manner
• Devise & implement A/B tests to optimize overall conversion, including lead generation efforts
• Ensure compatibility with various browsers (e.g. – Chrome, Firefox, Safari, IE) and platforms (e.g. – desktop, mobile, tablet)
• Implement SEO-friendly design and optimal page performance
• Deliver functionality in an agile development environment
• Advocate for and adapt industry best practices for frontend technologies

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or equivalent
• Relevant experience as a Frontend/UI developer
• Strong understanding of JavaScript, JQuery and other web scripting technologies
• Experience with supporting various browsers and platforms
• Experience with SEO
• Ability to work in a dynamic, agile environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Spree or other eCommerce platform
• Familiarity with site performance optimization using a variety of tools
• Experience with CDNs
• Experience with software testing, particularly in web development
• Working knowledge of Ruby and Ruby on Rails
• Working knowledge of Git
