Software Engineer, DevOps

Virta is the first company with a clinically-proven treatment to safely and sustainably reverse type-2 diabetes without the use of medications or surgery. Our innovations in nutritional biochemistry, data science and digital tools combined with our clinical expertise are shifting the diabetes treatment paradigm from management to reversal. Our mission: reverse type 2 diabetes in 100 million people by 2025.

As a member of Virta’s Platform team, you’ll get to flex your technical skills on a broad range of technologies, including Docker image management and optimization, information security and compliance, configuration management and infrastructure automation, third-party ops tool integrations (logging, monitoring, alerting, security, etc), building and deploying developer tools, and writing software to automate or improve Virta’s technology stack (Python 3).

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in Linux / Unix system administration & automation
• Significant experience in AWS (Azure or Google Compute Cloud also considered)
• Experience with Docker
• Proficient in bash and at least one other language (Python preferred; Ruby, Perl, others ok)
• Good understanding of networking and protocols (https, DNS, network segmentation, firewalls, etc)
• Experience building highly available systems
• Experience implementing monitoring & metrics systems

Bonus Points:

• Database administration and tuning (esp. PostgreSQL)
• Experience working in a regulated environment (HIPAA preferred; SOX, PCI also good)
• Fluency in config management software (Ansible preferred; Chef, Puppet, etc also good)
• Windows / Active Directory administration
• Experience with container orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Swarm, Amazon ECS/EKS, Mesos)
• Experience implementing CD systems with blue/green or red/black deployments
• Experience with service discovery and managing distributed services

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and harden Virta’s mixed cloud environment
• Design and implement significant architectural improvements (high-availability, cross-region replicated systems; service migration to AWS; etc)
• Database administration (esp. PostgreSQL)
• Maintain monitoring & metrics systems
• Develop infrastructure as code

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

• Obtain a full understanding of Virta’s growing infrastructure
• Work with the development and platform teams to plan 1-2 significant infrastructure projects aligned with business needs
• Establish strong working relationships with Virta’s engineering teams to understand and support their requirements
• Train other engineers on infrastructure and devops technologies
