Because of this need, we are adding a SOFTWARE ENGINEER to our Technology group in our Domestic Corporate Headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas.

Primary Functions:

BNSF Logistics builds and maintains software platforms to facilitate logistics and transportation solutions to both internal and external customers. We value strong technical, creative, and reasoning abilities in our developers who enhance/maintain our existing programs as well as architect new solutions.

This position entails the design and development of new software as well as maintenance of current systems. We adhere to a testing process through the review, analysis, and certification of our software. Collaboration is a must in our fast paced environment, therefore it may be required to lead and direct other developers for particular tasks or projects. The position has high visibility to upper management as such it is required to report on progress of assigned tasks at any time. Solutions to be developed using open source technologies as well as some of the Microsoft development stack.

Position Responsibilities:

• Gets things done. Takes ownership of tasks. Help drive the completion of all kinds of work tasks.
• Helps break down, estimate, and provide just-in-time design for small increments of work.
• Build a strong team using collaboration skills, positive attitude, source control, code reviews, adherence to coding guidelines, and project coordination.
• Continuously learns, and is unafraid to learn new practices, processes, technologies, and languages.
• Continuously acts to enhance knowledge of new technologies, business processes, and project management skills, staying abreast of trends, latest industry developments and knowledge sharing among colleagues
• Perform adequate developer level testing before releasing to QA and provide regression test criteria.
• Provides development and support for portions of one or more applications which may span multiple product or platform development teams
• Reports status of assigned software development and/or maintenance tasks
• Consistently follows software development methodology
• Be passionate about software development

Education and/or Experience:

A bachelor degree in computer science or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years software development experience with Microsoft Stack, and/or Open Source architecture, with demonstrated experience in Web work. (HTML5, CSS)
• Experience with MVC
• Experience with Advanced JavaScript (including prototype-based inheritance, event delegation, AJAX, JSON)
• Experience with JavaScript frameworks, such as Backbone.js, JavaScript, jQuery, etc.
• Knowledge of and desire to work in an Agile development environment
• Understanding of and experience in object oriented design and programming
• Familiarity with a portfolio of software development applications, environments and languages
• Experience using source code control systems, such as Git or Subversion.
• Creative problem solving skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions
• Must have strong teamwork orientation and the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams
• Good work ethic and strong sense of ownership of end result
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills required
• SOA Experience a plus
