Software Engineer

We are looking for a software engineer with a deep desire to work hands-on with cutting-edge tech, someone who can work full stack but has a concentration of skills on the backend. If you’re motivated to solve interesting problems and want to write software to help shape and transform our industry, join us in building out our technology platform.

Our platform includes PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch, and has been written almost entirely in Kotlin. Most of us are former Java engineers who as a group chose Kotlin as the language in which we wanted to build our platform. We really like the language, and have universally found the transition to be a satisfying one. That said, we’re totally aware Kotlin’s a young language, so know that if your experience has been hard-earned in other languages, we’d still love to talk to you.

Who you are

You’re a software engineer with a deep desire to work hands-on with cutting-edge tech, someone who can work full stack but has a concentration of skills on the backend. Specifically, you’re someone who:

• Has 3+ years designing and building scalable web applications
• Writes thoughtful, efficient code with an eye for team-friendly, straight-forward problem solving
• Has significant experience with REST APIs and their design
• Loves a fast test suite
• Understands software performance monitoring and loves metrics
• Has experience in both SQL and NoSQL environments
• Believes in the power of data and knows how to model it
• Has no problem using cloud services like AWS or the Google Cloud in a production capacity
• Prefers small, agile teams and tools like Slack
• Is humbly self-confident, with the excellent communication skills to match

Bonus points for engineers who have spent time working in eCommerce. We’re a Java / Kotlin shop, but we’re looking to hire the most talented engineers, not “the most talented engineers who speak one particular language.” If you can code, we’d love to talk to you.
