Software Engineer

What is the opportunity?

As a Software Engineer with RBC Wealth Management you will, be focused on Mainframe programming you partner across IT and with assigned business lines to assess, research, and analyze business, technical and system needs in order to resolve business systems issues.

What will you do?

Develop Assess, research and analyze business and system needs, exploring alternative options to recommend technology solutions and designs that meet sponsor needs and PLC deliverables

Lead detailed design phases for small to large projects/programs identifying, tracking and resolving technical issues

Prepare high level and detailed technical specifications for small to medium projects in accordance with PLC, security and architecture documentation objectives

Contribute to successful project completion by identifying risks and developing/recommending mitigation strategies and organize and participate in walkthrough reviews of all technical specifications, programs and unit test plans

Develop, code, document and execute unit test, system, integration and acceptance test using different languages and testing tools for functions of high complexity

Develop detailed plans and accurate estimates for completion of build, system testing and implementation phases of a project

Provides input and co-ordinates with DBA in creating new and modifying existing database structures using different types of databases and recommending appropriate DB based on required functionality

Provide on-call support of applications, database, etc., perform database/disaster recovery activities, and ensure adequate technical documentation and training

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

5+ years of hands-on experience as a mainframe developer using COBOL and JCL, as well as experience conducting code reviews of other development professionals

Experience utilizing mainframe tools (e.g. File-AID/DB2, XPEDITER/TSO/CICS, ZEKE – Job Scheduler, Abendaid, RACF, MAPRBMS) and mainframe-related database experience, with a strong preference for DB2 knowledge

Ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical users

Ability to travel on an ad hoc basis

Nice-to-have

IT experience in the securities industry and/or Tax related systems with server-side database experience (e.g. MS SQL)

Middleware technologies (e.g. MQSeries/Websphere, WXF, XML, .NET)

Different programming languages (e.g. Java, C, HTML, VB, Visual C++), code versioning tool (e.g. Endeavor, TFS), and Unix Scripting

Multiple platforms (e.g. MVS, Internet, Client/Server and ability to select the appropriate one to meet the business needs)
