Software Developer/Analyst

Purpose

Develop, implement and maintain web sites and database-driven web tools in support of the College of Natural Sciences.

Essential Functions

Serve as lead website developer for the College of Natural Sciences with responsibility for creation and maintenance of the college, department and research unit sites. Assist in evaluation and adoption of new web technologies, to include CMS modules and components. Responsible for keeping up with the latest versions of selected technologies. Provide excellent customer support to web clients and content editors.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field. Two years of professional experience in working with CMSs (Joomla, Drupal, WordPress) and their supporting PHP and MySQL databases. Experience developing applications in PHP, Python or other web technologies. Strong working knowledge of MVC architecture. Proven history/ability to complete projects and tasks by established deadlines. Must have great attention to detail and an ability to keep abreast of latest web trends and technology. Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with clients and prior customer service experience. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Three plus years of professional web development experience with CMSs (Joomla, Drupal, WordPress) and their supporting PHP and MySQL databases. Experience creating custom CMS modules and plug-ins. Experience with CSS, Javascript and JQuery.

May work around standard office conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Work performed on concurrent multiple projects under pressure of rigid deadlines or time limitations. May require occasional extended work hours or on-call obligation.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
