Software Developer

Title: Full Stack MySQL Java Developer

Hours: Mon-Fri; 8am-5pm

Reports to: Development Manager

Position Purpose

As a member of the DPS Product Management team, the IT Software Full Stack Developer will use detailed functional requirements and work with business analyst, QA and other developers to design and code software solutions for web based applications. Full Stack Developer will assist with existing web applications and growing new applications as business expands using full stack of knowledge including java/ZK and MySQL. Company offers a growing staff with future work-at-home options based on performance and company growth. Training in company specific systems and processes will be provided.

It will be expected that the IT Software Full Stack Developer will demonstrate skills in designing solutions for requirements, develop front-end/back-end code, perform unit testing, provide demos of solutions, attend meetings, and provide estimates on development efforts. Various job duties include new development, enhancements and defect production support. Candidates must possess a minimum of 3+ years of database and Java development experience with knowledge in ZKoss (ZK) or similar framework is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

The specific day-to-day job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain current/new Java web applications and web services
  • Translate the business requirements into technical design to create working code
  • Create front-end code using ZKoss (ZK) / java
  • Update/create solutions for database code (MySQL)
  • Backup Build Manager for all code; branching, builds and all deployments to all environments
  • Assist Build Manager to perform builds across multiple environments (DEV to PROD)
  • Support Business Analyst and QA when development questions arise
  • Provide technical release notes as needed to support production releases
  • Create as needed technical documentation for system solutions
  • Raise any risks that may impact the requirements on project or add risk
  • Facilitate code complete demos to BA and QA team members
  • Perform unit testing on all code produced
  • Contribute to the discovery process in terms of technical approach, risks, constraints, and assumptions
  • Provide delivery time based estimates to the project management team for deliverables
  • Assist in problem resolution and troubleshooting while following department guidelines and procedures

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Computer Science or related field or an equivalent degree with relevant Information Technology experience and 3+ years in software development (Plus if law enforcement background)

System Knowledge

  • Must have 3+ years of solid development experience using tools such as Java, Eclipse, XML, CSS, HTML, Spring Framework and Web Services (required)
  • Experience with ZKoss (ZK) Framework (preferred)
  • Strong experience with databases (MySQL) in the area of performance tuning and stored procedures (required)
  • Experience integrating with middleware systems and cloud-based systems (preferred)
  • Integration of Google Maps/ESRI and Java (preferred)
  • Experience coding for mobile devices and responsive design (plus/optional)
  • History with ticket/documentation systems similar to: JIRA, TFS, Confluence, SharePoint, etc. (plus/optional)
  • Agile/Scrum 1+ years’ experience (plus/optional)
  • Basic email, WebEx/meeting functions (required)
  • Law Enforcement software (plus/optional)

The IT Software Developer should be able to demonstrate these characteristics for employment qualification.

  • Ability to understand to design solutions that will fit business requirements
  • Strong technical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to establish positive working relationships and contribute in team environment
  • Detailed understanding of multiple environments and code branching/builds/deployments in a full life cycle of a ticket
  • Effective organization and time management skills
  • Proven track record of working with complex system environments
  • Effective communicator; verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter with solid interpersonal skills, projecting a very positive, customer service oriented attitude
  • Understanding that textbook methodologies can be modified to fit a given situation/project for the highest ROI/results (flexible) Ability to work alone and as the leader or member of a project team with minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail is a must; particularly in the areas of program testing, quality assurance (unit testing), and systems documentation
  • Ability to change direction/focus as needed in an agile environment
  • Handle a variety of tickets and understand interactions across multiple areas of a system
  • Talented and eager to learn law enforcement functions
  • Ability to work from home; internet connection speed to support web-based conferences, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $60,000.00 to $70,000.00 /year
