Expedia SEM is seeking a creative, intellectually curious Software Development Engineer for the SEM Engineering team. Search engine marketing (SEM) is a form of Internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by growing their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs) through optimization and advertising. This team focuses on improving the experience of customers who come to our site through SEM. We do so by analyzing, manipulating, and optimizing large volumes of search related data, and developing complex systems to solve our critical problems. Challenges involve multiple programming languages, complex algorithmic processing and massive data sets.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience based on 3 years of work experience for every 1 year of education)

3+ years professional experience in software development

Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structure, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis

Strong Java Skills

Strong Database Skills

Experience working in the Cloud (AWS)

Proficiency in performance optimization techniques with large data set

Experience and competency with unit tests, test automation, and continuous integration (a laser like focus on quick delivery)

Experience with scoping ambiguous business requirements to a concrete set of work

Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & standard methodologies for the full software development process, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project

Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
