What part will you play?

We are preparing for how the next generation of CNN’s millions of users will consume their news, be it from the comfort of their living rooms or traveling on the go. Our emerging technologies team is traveling to the future to bring back tomorrow’s technologies and platforms so our consumers can discover and engage with CNN’s diverse and unique content across the multiple screens (or will there still be screens?) they use. In order to meet the demand for this dynamic and exciting segment, our software development team is growing.

This is an amazing opportunity for a skilled developer like yourself that wants to work on the latest technologies and has an established background in client and server side development and design. Our environment is unique. Teamwork and a strong desire to learn new technologies are everyday requirements to succeed. Agile is a way of life and you’ll have the full support of our entire group to bring new and innovative ideas and methodologies to improve our products and processes. You’ll sit side by side with both executives and junior staff to iterate quickly to both launch new features and improve what we’ve already built. For such a large group, there’s a shockingly small amount of red tape for you to get things done. It takes a special type of person to thrive here, but if all that sounds interesting to you, read on.

What do we require from you?

• You’ve done this before. You’ve got at least 4 years of software engineering experience, are an expert and varied programmer and can’t wait to show off your skills (this is a must). You have either experience or a passion for developing in/for NodeJS, the MEAN stack, Java, 2D and 3D games, Social Networks, RESTful APIs, and if that led you to develop on Google Home, Google Newsstand, Apple News, or Alexa – even better. Show us what you got.
• At your core you are a technologist. You want to learn it all and play with it all. You’re resourceful and creative. Nothing is more satisfying than solving that difficult problem and you love to bring new ways to tackle an issue, even if it goes against popular opinion or the way things have been done before.
• You’re not afraid to inject some reality when needed but offer alternative solutions, not excuses. You don’t know the meaning of “blocked.” You love to learn and you do it on your own.
• You talk good. We work with a myriad of third party vendors, offshore teams, and internal groups to deliver the best apps to our customers. Your exceptional communication skills and attention to detail ensure your team is well represented and everyone understands what is expected. You provide great feedback through code reviews, ticket comments, and one on one conversations so that to your partners and peers can deliver up to and above their abilities.
• You’re an Agile ninja. You believe in Scrum and iterating quickly, turning ideas into deployable code while always thinking about ways to improve performance, squash old bugs, and just making anything we deliver better for our customers. Things move fast here, and if changes come down the pipe, you handle them with grace and creativity.
• You play nice with others. We work closely together as a team with our product, design editorial, and development teams to help turn their dreams into reality. You’ll review code, pair program, and provide feedback using your great communication skills and attention to detail to ensure your team understands what is expected and that we deliver on time and up to (and above) expectations.
• You work hard and you have fun doing it. You got this.
