Shipping Manager

ONLINE SHIPPING MANAGER/JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

The Online Shipping Manager is a Magnolia ambassador who is responsible for the specific function of the online shipping operation, including the management and development and safety of staff. The holder of this position for Magnolia must uphold the mission and values of the Magnolia brand and perform the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uphold Magnolia’s mission, vision and values.
  • Establish operational procedures to ensure the safety of Magnolia employees.
  • Inspect physical condition of the designated work space(s) and equipment.
  • Communicate with the Director of Warehouse operations, the warehouse manager and associated department heads to ensure coordination of shipping activities with all warehouse and internal constituents.
  • Achieve shipping and packaging operational objectives via contributing and recommendations through strategic planning and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; collaborating with key stake holders who impact and/or are impacted by the shipping operation, implementing production/productivity/quality initiatives and customer-service standards, resolving problems, completing audits and identifying trends.
  • Meet warehouse operations financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Develop warehouse operations systems by determining product and materials handling and storage requirements; develop, implement, enforce and evaluate policies and procedures.
  • Develop shipping and picking departmental design related to functional layout, product flow and product handling systems,
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures while complying with company and OSHA regulations.
  • Secure property by developing protection and access policies and procedures and coordinating with facilities management and with security department when needed.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Maintain compliance with Magnolia’s customer service standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manage and develop subordinate managers who supervise an ever-growing shipping department work force. The number of associates and managers in this department currently numbers 50+ employees. The holder of the position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. They will conduct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor or Master’s degree preferred, or the equivalent of ten plus years of related experience and/or training specifically in online shipping and fulfillment.

Language Skills

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, Google Docs, NetSuite, ShipStation, and Shopify Inventory software (preferred).

The Online Shipping Manager is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet, cold, hot and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
