Senior Web Application Developer

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Qualifications

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends to meet deadlines and provide production support.

The Senior Web Application Developer position develops and maintains high quality client-side user interface browser applications using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and related technologies that interact with server-side technology.

May substitute additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis in lieu of the degree.

Engineering, computer science or related equivalent

• Three plus years of experience of progressive client side programming using HTML/HTML5, CSS, Javascript, XML, JQuery.
• Experience with CMS development/administration, especially WordPress and Drupal
• Experience with MVC design patterns.
• Experience with object oriented analysis and design.
• Experience collaborating with other members of the development team and technical staff to complete projects.
• Experience working with end users.

Education may not be substituted for the experience requirement.

• Experience with Java and the Spring framework or Groovy/Grails is a strong plus.
• Experience with PHP is a strong plus.
• Experience with AngularJS or Oracle JET are strong pluses.
• Experience with Python, or Cold Fusion is a plus.
• Experience with the Acquia platform strongly preferred.
• Experience with uPortal software.

• Ability to develop and maintain custom Drupal modules.
• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines on a tight schedule.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Have a collaborative spirit and can work well in small teams or go solo if the need arises.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Working knowledge of Linux, Apache, MySQL, Oracle DB, and/or SQL Server.

The individual will have frequent contact with technical and administrative staff at Rice including AVP and Director level positions. The individual will have occasional contact with faculty and students. The individual will have contact with vendors and consultants.

Will respond to requests and problem reports from clients and their users. Will have visibility as a university representative and will have contact with vendors and representatives from other institutions.

8am – 5pm workday with occasional evening/weekend and on-call work as required to meet project deadlines and maintain system availability.
