Job Overview

This position requires a highly skilled individual with in-depth knowledge of the IBM high-end P-Series hardware, as well as the ability to effectively manage the latest AIX operating system environment.

Expert knowledge of setting up Lpars and Virtual I-O servers is required. The individual must be proficient in troubleshooting, system security, process control, file system turning, hardware configuration, shell scripting, volume management, cluster design/setup and other general system administration duties. Keeps abreast of industry trends and best practices, recommends appropriate hardware and software upgrades, serves as a systems expert and advisor and manages assigned projects. Additionally, must be able to achieve availability and performance objectives for MBUSA corporate Unix AIX systems by providing analysis support and implementing projects and plans consistent with the Company’s policies and procedures. Must be able to implement all necessary security features in compliance with the MBUSA Security Team policies.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development of standards, guidelines and policies related to the design and architecture of Unix AIX solutions. Review solution options, research and analyze alternatives and recommend solutions to business and technology leadership.
  • Develop methodologies to implement new and emerging hardware and software infrastructure. Oversee and review the research, analysis, selection, planning and engineering of Unix AIX Server hardware and software components or enhancements.
  • Develop methods to test, debug, support, and analyze performance, and document hardware and software technology components. Manage highly complex hardware and software technology analysis, evaluation on resource requirements necessary to maintain and/or expand service levels or tune hardware and software components for optimum performance.
  • Build and support MBUSA Unix AIX server infrastructure, which entails the configuration of physical hardware and the deployment of Operating Systems consistent with the Company’s policy and procedures.

  • Provide AIX operating systems support and ensure maximum performance and uptime for all AIX servers. Troubleshoot software and hardware problems involving Open Systems AIX Unix servers and the applications that run on them. Ensure optimal level of 2nd and 3rd level support. Monitor the performance of and manage the backups of the Unix systems, and manage the TSM Tivoli environment. Update and configure AIX software, and various software such as DB2, MicroFocus COBOL, MQ-Series, Tivoli, Oracle, On-Tap, Direct Connect, etc. as required. Configure and perform system management tasks related to Volume Groups, Logical Volumes, Filesystems, cron jobs, paging space, User IDs, networking, HACMP, VIO, Clustering, disk storage. Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and execution as required.
  • Responsible for defining server hardening guidelines in collaboration with Corporate Security team. Manage and recommend updates to information security policies and procedures for information technology assets.
  • Responsible for continuous automation of Operating System deployments and administrative tasks. Integrate with existing system management tools.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation and reference manuals for procedures, policies and inventory and ensure currency through periodic review, audit and maintenance.

Qualifications


Education

Bachelor’s Degree (accredited school) with emphasis in:

  • Computer/Information Science
  • Information Technology
  • Management Information System (MIS)


This job also requires the applicant to have the following Licenses / Certifications

Having certification/s in AIX administration with seven plus years of experience (minimum) with installation, configuration, and maintenance of AIX including version 7 on high-end Power systems, within a large data center environment is a plus, as well as IBM AIX System administration with performance monitoring and tuning, high availability clusters with HACMP and Disaster Recovery.


Must have 7 + years’ (total) of experience in the following:

Administration -> General Knowledge of administrative procedures, process/project development, and system procedures.

Business – General Knowledge of fundamental business practices and concepts that impact the success and profitability of the organization.

Processing – Proficient Knowledge of processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques in order to achieve maximum efficiency.

Quality Assurance – Knowledge of accounting standards, statistical analysis, precision measurement, and process capability.


Additional Information

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in an Information Systems environment required
  • Must have an expert technical knowledge of Power Systems
  • Solid working knowledge of IBM AIX and systems administration
  • Strong working knowledge with one of more scripting languages – PowerShell, Windows Command Script, Visual Basic Script
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience working with IBM AIX monitoring and tuning, high availability clusters with HACMP, configuration and system management tasks related to Volume Groups, Logical Volumes, Filesystems, cron jobs, paging space, User IDs, networking, VIO, Clustering, and disk storage.
  • Experience with ITIL processes and methodologies for problem, change and incident management
  • Experience working with and troubleshooting TCP/IP, FTP, and DNS issues
  • Knowledge of storage protocols and connectivity
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Visio
  • Ability to learn, evaluate new product releases, considering enhancement to existing or integration into our environment
  • Must have knowledge of end-user functions in order to recommend server solutions, as well as knowing the business at the departmental and corporate level
  • Should be familiar with cost/benefit analysis and contract review and negotiation and licensing arrangements
  • Excellent research, analytical, and troubleshooting skills are mandatory
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
