Senior Systems Engineer – Storage

Supports the Company’s storage systems through designing, developing, implementing, evaluating and maintaining a stable and efficient infrastructure system that protects corporate data, facilitates business objectives and increases operational effectiveness. Responsible for resolution and follow-up related to varied and complex technical issues and works directly with internal teams to provide solutions to reported problems. Provides individualized training on new technologies, applications and services. Works closely with end-users, members of IT support and other team members with strong communication and problem-solving skills. Works under minimal supervision, demonstrating a high degree of personal initiative, on medium-risk initiatives and makes independent decisions when planning, organizing and completing technical assignments. May direct the work of outside services personnel as well as serve as a resource and mentor to other staff members.

Responsibilities:
Researches and interviews business and technical teams to understand current and future needs, system requirements and problems.

Develops technical solutions to meet clients’ needs through analysis and implementation of computer/network systems, telecommunication technologies and processes.

Provides advice on project costs, design concepts or design changes for solution recommendations.

Documents design specifications, installation instructions and other system-related information.

Verifies stability, interoperability, portability, security or scalability of system architecture.

Collaborates with others to select appropriate design solutions or ensure the compatibility of system components.

Evaluates current or emerging technologies to consider factors such as cost, portability, compatibility or usability.

Provides technical guidance or support for the development or troubleshooting of systems.

Identifies system data, hardware, or software components required to meet user needs.

Provides guidelines for implementing secure systems to customers or installation teams.

Monitors system operation to detect potential problems.

Trains clients on new technologies, applications and services.

Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of available technologies potentially applicable to business problems.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in industry specific field

Minimum of 8+ years of related experience managing medium to large storage environments

7+ Years of experience administrating Microsoft and Linux operating systems

5+ Years of experience with Active Directory, Citrix and various networking components

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Expert technical knowledge of file and storage protocols (CIFs, NFS, FC, FCOE, iSCSI)

Advanced knowledge of SAN and NAS hardware and operating systems (NetApp, EMC, Cisco)

Expert knowledge of Windows Operating Systems (Primarily Windows Server and Windows 7)

Ability to prioritize tasks and projects in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while maintaining close attention to detail

Ability to make decisions with limited information and effectively deal with ambiguity

Strong project management and mentoring skills

Highly self-motivated, self-directed and results-oriented

Strong analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to assess a problem and determine an effective course of action

Strong customer service, consultation and listening skills to ensure client needs are met

Excellent interpersonal skills used to develop and cultivate relationships with customers, team members and vendors

Excellent verbal and written communication, including interacting with, presenting to, and engaging personnel at multiple levels, and expressing technical issues and resolutions to the customer in a non-technical manner

Physical Demands:

Utilizes multi-limb coordination and flexibility combined with control precision to perform fine motor skills including: finger manipulation, grasping, feeling, arm-hand steadiness, in order to push, pull or lift objects.

Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Utilizes multi-limb coordination to balance on even surfaces, stoop, kneel, stand, walk and reach over shoulders or below the knees.

Must employ the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the company’s Environmental, Health and Safety policies.

Work Environment:
Environmentally controlled with no exposure to extreme changes in the weather, and limited exposure to humidity/moisture relative to atmospheric condition variations.

No exposure to dust, chemicals, gases, fumes, smoke, excessive noise and/or vibrations.

Work generally performed in an office environment.

Up to 20% travel may be required for assignments, meetings and training.

Overtime, Weekend and/or Holiday hours may be required.
