About the Senior Systems Engineer Position

The ideal candidate for the Senior Systems Engineer position will need to have a broad knowledge of systems experience, with the ability to quickly learn new and unfamiliar technologies. Being a part of this growing team, the Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for regular on-call shifts for 24×7 systems support and need to troubleshoot and fix problems in a timely manner at all hours of the day or night. The Senior Systems Engineer will be an integral part in the day-to-day operations and planning for the future of our infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, install and configure database systems
  • Provide support for new applications and upgrades to existing systems
  • Design solutions to technical problems and implementation of new systems or infrastructure changes
  • Monitor critical systems and take corrective actions prior to failures
  • Prepare for disaster recovery and ensure that appropriate backups are completed and tested
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware failures and identify network problems
  • Establish and maintain security and integrity controls

Preferred Requirements

  • Production data center and cloud experience (AWS, Rackspace, etc.)
  • At least 5 years experience managing and maintaining a production Linux (CentOS, RedHat) environment
  • Experience setting up and maintaining a kickstart environment
  • A familiarity with Windows Server and administering Active Directory
  • Demonstrated experience managing VMWare ESXi 5+
  • Experience setting up and managing Cassandra, Solr and MySQL infrastructure, including adding nodes, rebuilding and backing up
  • Experience with production load balancing to many backend application servers
  • Experience administering network services: CIFS, NFS, SMTP, DNS, etc
  • Solid understanding of load balancing, horizontal scaling, UNIX-related network services, TCP/IP networking, DNS and HTTP(s)
  • Excellent communications and customer service skills
  • Strong experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet
  • Strong Perl, Python, and/or shell scripting (Java a plus)
  • Requires the ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Experience with Tomcat application servers
  • Experience with Splunk, Logstash, Grafana and other monitoring/graphing tools
