So what does a Senior Structural Engineer at Michael Baker International do?

As part of our Structural Engineering Design Team, you will primarily provide planning, design, and construction support for a variety of projects related to industrial facility engineering. You will provide input to the preparation of construction drawings and specifications. You will build and maintain important relationships with customers, subcontractors, and vendors.

Can you walk me through a typical day of a Senior Structural Engineer?

The majority of your day would be spent leading and/or contributing to the design effort on one or more projects.

Perform structural evaluation and design of nuclear related industrial facilities.

Prepare complex studies, calculations, reports, and other supporting documentation.

Supervise the preparation of construction drawings related to new and existing structures.

Clearly convey information to internal and external clients.

Assist in the development of scope of work statements and man-hour estimates.

Assist with defining scope of work and man-hour requirements.

Travel occasionally, as required.

Depending on your interests, a structural engineer in the Idaho Falls office will typically function as a highly skilled technical resource and/or will become a project coordinator/manager. There are also opportunities to advance or move laterally into other areas of interest within the business.

Could you be the Senior Structural Engineer we are looking for?

You’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (with Structural Emphasis) from an accredited four-year college or university. If you have an advanced degree, that’s even better.

You’ll need a minimum of 8 years’ experience in commercial, nuclear, or industrial facility maintenance or design. A Master’s degree may be substituted for 1 – 2 years of experience.

You’ll need to be registered as a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Idaho or be eligible to become registered by comity from another state.

You should possess a DOE Level “L” security clearance or have the ability to obtain same within 6 months of hire.

You should have excellent English language skills, both written and verbal.

You’ll need to be outgoing, organized and assertive. You’ll also need to be able to network and build relationships with a wide variety of people.

Naturally, you’ll need computer skills using the Microsoft Office Suite.

You’ll need to be a motivated self-starter who displays a passion for solving problems, interacting in a team environment, and meeting established deadlines.

It would be a plus if you have experience working with or for the Idaho National Laboratory.

It would be a plus if you have experience using AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, Midas FEA, or Mathcad.
