Senior Maltster

Responsible for all production and quality in a 300,000 MT malting facility. Monitors all analytical and process data and makes changes in a proactive manner to ensure product quality is upheld.

Owner of facility HAACP program and ensures sanitation standards are upheld and gaps in performance closed.

Works with Process Support Manager and technicians to coordinate predictive and preventive maintenance plans and process improvements.

Owner of Quality Pillar ensuring standardized approaches to processes, maintaining sustainability and closing gaps in performance.

Utilize VPO tools to achieve KPI targets and close gaps in performance; root cause analysis, GAP Analysis, MCRS meeting schedules and action logs, 5-Why’s, PDCA and SDCA cycles etc.

Ensure compliance with SOP’s and Critical Control Points. Monitor progress to initiatives.

Responsible for executing safety initiatives and creating a safe working environment within department. Builds a environment that promotes personal accountability for safety.

Mentor, coach and develop employees to build process and technical knowledge through training while building engagement.

Manage operating department budgets. Responsible for tracking, variance explanations and new budget development. Works to deliver improved results within operating department.

Indirect management of Quality lab personnel and processes.

Job Qualifications

Minimum of a Bachelors degree in a Science related curriculum, (i.e. Food Science, Fermentation Science, Biology, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, etc).

Demonstrated ability to manage a 24-hour / 7-day a week continuous operation.

Highly effective communication skills focusing on coaching and development.

Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, team orientation, and technical / problem solving skills.

In-depth knowledge of both theoretical and practical brewing/malting process – approaching expert level.

Ability to extract, evaluate and utilize data for process improvement from applicable systems, such as SAP, BPA/UPA, Brewery Data Warehouse, QI Analyst, etc.

In-depth knowledge of process support and maintenance engineering. Working knowledge of QA, Utilities and Engineering.

Minimum of 5 years production experience. 1-3 years Process experience preferred.

Familiarity with budgeting and cost accounting.

Effective computer and problem solving skills.
