Senior Investment Analyst

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Senior Investment Analyst for the Southern Territory Headquarters, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Job Summary

Works closely with the Director – Office of Investments and the Investment Operations Manager as an integral part of the overall investment function of the Office of Investments and Planned Giving Administration. Assists in the strategic development of investment policy and ideas. Accompanies the Director – Office of Investments to critical meetings to provide input with regard to the Territorial Portfolio; prepares minutes of the same and disseminates accordingly. Researches financial market data, files, and other information to create reports for various meetings and audit exercises. Serves as part of the Office of Investments strategy group for portfolio direction, ideas, economic outlook, and overall strategy. Maintains extensive knowledge of market events, economic developments, and asset class trends that may impact the portfolio.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of traditional and alternative investments, private placement memorandums, partnership agreements, securities, security markets and investment terminology. Understands alternative investment strategies and issues associated with investment in private partnerships. Flexibility to deal with broad range of financial and investment issues and procedures. Knowledge of investment management practices for all forms of investments including fixed income, equity, private equity, hedge funds, and private real assets. Knowledge of standard financial calculations related to the analysis of investment return. Knowledge of the principles and practices of general business administration. Knowledge of economics, finance and accounting. Knowledge of accepted practices and techniques for preparing routine and complex spreadsheets and databases. Excellent organizational, analytical, mathematical, and communication (oral and written) skills Good project management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience using analytical software, databases, presentation graphics software and spreadsheets in support of investment analysis and performance reporting. Ability to apply independent judgment in making decisions and resolving problems with limited supervision. Ability to prepare and conduct informative presentations regarding current and proposed investment practices. Ability to learn and use all of the computer software assigned by the department including ability to quickly learn and become proficient in retrieving and reporting financial and investment data. Ability to read and understand financial charts. Full comprehension of risk/return concepts, efficient market theory, and the capital asset pricing model. Ability to prepare detailed reports and analysis of various forms of financial data and documentation. Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing at a high level in order to convey information to individuals inside and outside of the Army regarding Army policy, investments and philosophy.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field is required with a Masters’ degree in Business Administration (MBA) preferred and Five of years progressively responsible portfolio investment work experience required, preferably with a nonprofit organization, and Certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst preferred.

License and Certifications: Valid Driver’s License. Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) is preferred

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language. Ability to enter information into a computer. Ability to operate and answer the telephone. This job requires a limited amount of physical effort associated with walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting and carrying light objects. Work requires overnight travel throughout the country on a periodic basis in order to perform the duties of this position. Work under strict deadlines and, as needed, outside of normal working hours. Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
