Senior Director/ Chief Financial Officer

Financial Statement Preparation and Analysis

• Prepares monthly and year-to-date financial statements for President/CEO and Board of Trustees

• Provides written analysis of financial results

• Ensures general ledger is reconciled on a monthly basis which includes cash, investment, and other related accounts to ensure monthly financial closing process can be completed by month end

Grants Management Systems

• Ensures that the grants disbursements process is maintained, properly controlled, and functioning in a manner consistent with established internal control policies and standards

• Ensures that the financial records of the grants management system (GMS) are accurate and reconciled to the Accounting System on a monthly basis

• Research and develop, in coordination with IT and Patient Services, enhanced mechanisms to deliver financial grants to patients and health insurance companies

Cash and Investment Management

• Ensures investment advisor complies with the investment policy established by the Board and provides quarterly updates to the Finance Committee

• Monitors daily cash balances to ensure adequate balances are maintained to pay operating expenses

• Works with Development Office to ensure that the fundraising system (Raisers Edge) and the Accounting system (Solomon) are reconciled on a monthly basis, and that back-up relating to in-house contributions are delivered within standards to ensure timely receipt processing

• Ensures operating, patient checks, and disbursements under annuity contracts are processed daily/ weekly/ monthly and appropriate banking procedures are followed

State Registrations/ Preparation of 990 and 5500/ Gift Annuity Administration

• Ensures state registrations are filed timely and accurately

• Prepares or oversees in the preparation of all the information and schedules supporting the development of the annual IRS form 990

• Reviews and/ or prepares form 5500 for the 403(b) retirement plan

• Ensures state registrations for gift annuity program are filed timely

• Maintains knowledge of regulations and laws affecting non-profit organizations, and develops and implements policies to assure that AKF is compliant

Audits, Budgets and Other Finance Activities

• Coordinates and leads the annual independent audit process, liaises with external auditors, prepares year end functional allocation and financial statements and ensures audit report is completed for Audit Committee review by mid-March

• Conducts annual internal audit of the Patient Grant delivery procedures and controls

• Coordinates preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, working with all departments to review financial plans and cost controls

• Prepares budget for presentation to President/CEO, Finance Committee, and Board of Trustees for approval

• Works with COO and AKF insurance broker to ensure AKF maintains adequate insurance coverage

• Prepares financial analysis on specific projects for Executive and other team members (examples: HIPP program, special events, reporting back to grant agencies, etc.)

• Develops and implements internal control procedures

• Works with IT department to ensure all appropriate finance related disaster recovery testing takes place on a regular basis (Ensure finance system can cut checks for operations and patient grants and other financial matters could continue after a disaster incident)

• Supervises other financial management staff, including Associate Director of Accounting and Accounting Assistant positions

• Coordinates with COO in the management and coordination of the agenda for Audit and Finance Committee conference calls, ensuring proper minutes are taken and follow up actions are completed

• Oversees administration management, including supervision of Office Manager to ensure that following tasks are successfully completed:

o Office support is maintained; telephone coverage, office and kitchen supplies maintained, in-coming and out-going mail processed daily, deposits processed daily, other department’s special projects are supported

o Office suite is maintained and furniture needs are addressed for the national office

o Operational support is provided for employees outside corporate office

o If office space is sublet, serves as liaison with the subtenant as needed to ensure needs are met

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business or Economics and at least 5 to 7 years of strategic, senior-level finance and administrative experience required. MBA or CPA designation preferred. Experience with nonprofit operation preferred. 3-5 years of supervisory experience required. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and computerized Accounting Software required. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics SL accounting software a plus. Must be ethical, well organized, detail oriented, able to work independently, act within a confidential manner, have good oral and written skills as demonstrated through making oral and written presentation to outside and internal groups and have the ability to work effectively within a team framework.

• Ability to translate financial concepts and effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds

• A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytics, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making

• Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize and work with a variety of external and internal stakeholders

• Ability to work with and support Board Committees, including Audit and Finance Committees
