Senior DevOps – Operations Engineer

Our client, based in the Greater Boston area, has the following opportunity for a Junior DevOps/Operations Engineer. This is a 3-6 month Contract to Permanent position at a fantastic growing company with a cool mission.

They are looking for a new Senior DevOps-Operations Engineer to join the team. The Operations Engineers work as a team on the continuous support of the web-site as well as large projects aimed at improving the systems and infrastructure. A Senior DevOps-Operations Engineer typically has at least 4 years of experience in the field. They don’t have specific education requirements but you should have experience with: Configuration Management, a Programming Language, and AWS.

They are currently using Chef, Terraform, Ruby, Python, and whatever else it takes to never log into an actual system. They treat infrastructure as code; if it’s not checked in, it doesn’t make it to production.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in all stages of infrastructure provisioning – from architecture design through application deployment
  
• Write excellent, performant code and associated tests
  
• Monitor the infrastructure, and take part in a 24×7 on-call rotation
  
• Discuss product requirements with others, both inside and outside of engineering
  

Qualifications:

• Senior DevOps-Operations Engineers typically have at least 4 years of experience in the field.
  
• Experience with config management tools (They use Chef with Test Kitchen, but as long as you’ve touched config management you’ll be fine)
  
• Experience with object-oriented languages (Ruby, Python)
  
• Experience administering and tuning databases (they use PostgreSQL)
  
• Ability to operate in a cloud environment such as AWS
  
• Believer in configuration management and documentation
  
• Start Up experience would be a plus,… however would like to see more than just Start Up experience
  
• Experience working with software teams and using source control. They use Git.
  
• Team player, be able to teach as well as learn. People here really like working together.
