Prospectus:

As a Data Engineer, you will help tackle the hairiest problems at Funding Circle. You’ll be responsible for working with our analytics groups to understand the full spectrum of possibilities within our business. You will help manage the flow of data from production systems, external sources, data warehouses, all the way up to visualization. We are part of the global Funding Circle team, so you’ll have colleagues in London and San Francisco, that are living at the cutting (and sometimes bleeding) edge with Clojure, Mesos, Docker and more.

You will work alongside your team to build a sophisticated data pipeline – enabling deep analytics while contributing to our overall back-end infrastructure. This role is mission critical.You will have huge influence on the entire data strategy for the organization! We’re a tight-knit but highly visible part of the team.

Bird’s eye view of the role:

• Be a builder: you’ll be data warehousing all aspects of our loan application process to help build powerful analytics tools.
• Be a storyteller: you’ll be expected to present your findings to audiences of all technical abilities and generate buy-in for your insights.
• Be a sentry: you’ll help architect our reporting framework and be expected to sound the alarm if something looks wrong.
• Be a collaborator: you’ll be expected to forge deep bonds with your business counterparts, understanding their data needs and sharing ownership of their outcomes. No tossing responses over the fence.
• Be a data evangelist: lead by example and push for high quality data-driven decision-making throughout the company by helping other teams develop good metrics and backtesting credit models and your own data analysis.
• Be a teacher: be generous with your time and expertise to teach stakeholders how to answer their own questions with data tools you build.

Our ideal teammate has:

• 6+ years in a development and data engineering role preferably in tech, consulting, or finance.
• 1+ years hands-on programming experience with Clojure
• extensive hands-on experience with SQL (we use Postgres).
• strong programming skills (Python, Java, Ruby, Scala)
• familiarity with AWS and Apache stacks including EMR, Lambda, EC2, Mesos etc.
• Unix development skills including shell scripting and automation.
• experience with messaging and streaming platforms (Kafka/RabbitMQ/JMS/etc.).
• exposure to big data/NoSQL systems and the issues that arise from working with large data sets.
• a self-starter attitude with an enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, start-up environment.
• experience in financial or other strongly regulated industry where oversight and attention to detail is paramount.

Brownie points for:

• Experience in virtualized environments (Mesos, Marathon, Chronos, Docker, etc.).
• Skills working with structured and unstructured data sets.
• Microservice architecture development experience.
• ETL familiarity with SalesForce data, connectivity and its limitations.
• Engineering/CS or Finance degree.
