Senior Data Engineer

The Nike Demand Supply Management (DSM) Analytics team brings together data, technology, and business process expertise to deliver scalable and innovative information solutions to optimize Nike’s Supply Chain Planning capabilities.

As a Senior Data Engineer on the Nike DSM Analytics team, you’ll innovate and develop data solutions that provide insights into supply chain planning successes and opportunities. You will play a key role in evolving the existing landscape of data and reporting, using your drive and creativity to solve data challenges in a rapidly moving business and technology environment. Data and analytics are critical enablers to Nike’s success; to meet the demands of our business, we are rapidly embracing new software development and deployment technologies and tools and delivering solutions using agile methodology.

Your Role on the Team:

  • Engage with product owner, technology lead, report developers, product analysts, and business partners to understand capability requirements and develop data solutions based on product backlog priorities.
  • Support the culture of team empowerment and engagement through successful self-management. Own your workload and contributions to the team.
  • Champion ideas; challenge the status quo when you see opportunities for improvement.
  • Proactively support product health by building solutions that are automated, scalable, and sustainable— be relentlessly focused on minimizing defects and technical debt.
  • Support new capabilities for the product, as well as critical “Keep the Lights On” activities.
  • Be a contributor to overall architecture, framework and design patterns of BI and Analytics environment


Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other relevant subject area
  • 2 years’ additional relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • 5+ years of experience with large-scale data engineering with emphasis on data analytics and reporting
  • Strong experience with SQL and Relational database engineering (Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata)— expert-level SQL abilities
  • 3+ years of experience developing in the Hadoop ecosystem, leveraging tools such as Pig, Hive, Sqoop, Spark and others
  • Experience developing solutions in Snowflake
  • Experience developing with the AWS EMR managed service
  • Experience developing with scripting languages such as Shell and Python
  • Experience with agile delivery methodologies in a fast-paced complex environment – Scrum, SAFe, Extreme Programming
  • Strong ability to multi-task and balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to partner with business and technology team members, to understand business requirements and translate those into value-add technology solutions
  • Ability to pass a 7-year background investigation

Additional preferences are:

  • Experience developing in Java or Javascript
  • Experience with workload automation tools such as Airflow, Autosys.
  • Experience using version control for source code (GIT)
  • Experience building solutions with data visualization and reporting tools (Tableau, Cognos)
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain Planning business processes and objectives
  • Prior Nike experience
