Senior Consultant, Team Leader, Risk Analytics

The Model Strategy & Data Analytics team is looking for an experienced modeler to provide analytics supporting capital adequacy and loss estimation for Northern Trust’s investment securities portfolio.
Responsible for acting as a lead contributor in the development, execution, maintenance, and monitoring of stress testing (OTTI), CECL, and other models.
Key Responsibilities
This position will manage a team of junior staff.
  • Develop, maintain and execute statistical models related to loss estimation and risk analysis for both available for sale (AFS) and held to maturity (HTM) debt securities
  • Ensure quality control of model development and results reporting documentation
  • Work closely with the Model Validation, Model Governance and Audit functions to address all validation findings or Audit issues by deadline
  • Interact with the Data Analytics team to request and ensure high quality data are utilized in the model development process
  • Act as a subject matter and technical expert in communication with a wide range of audiences including key business partners, management, oversight committees, and regulators
  • Work with project management team to track development efforts and resolve issues
  • Display a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity
  • Focus of role is on execution of strategic direction of risk measurement activities with an eye toward efficiency and sustainability
  • Seasoned multi-disciplinary expert with extensive technical and/or business knowledge and functional expertise
  • 6 – 8 years of experience developing and managing statistical models in banking or related industry
  • 6 – 8 years of experience in CCAR regulatory examination setting presenting quantitative model results and addressing regulatory questions and findings
  • Demonstrated experience programming in statistical computing languages such as SAS, SQL and R for data analysis and model building
  • Experience with commonly used vendor solutions including Moody’s (Portfolio Analyzer, CMM, and GCorr models) and PolyPaths
  • Excellent analytical skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills, the ability to create concise model documentation, as well as the ability to critically review and edit documents; a writing sample may be requested
  • Ability to effectively communicate with peers, senior management and overseas partners
  • Ability to work under pressure and organize, manage and prioritize multiple deliverables
  • Advanced degree (PhD is preferred) in statistics or equivalent quantitative field
