Senior COBOL Programmer

One of my clients, a digital marketing firm is in immediate need of a Senior COBOL Programmer for a long term contract opportunity.

Senior Analyst Programmer – Cobol

Basic Function:

• Work multiple projects concurrently and shift priorities as required to meet business requirements and deadlines.
• Work with business unit and technical staff to ensure changes are implemented according to specifications.
• Review problems, understanding the major impacts to technical and business-related areas, and provide basic recommendations and solutions that can be implemented to correct the problem.
• Provide technical guidance to staff with less experience and mentors peers on assigned systems.
• Serve as the primary technical expert within a mission critical application(s) / systems, acting as an internal consultant for all tasks in the analysis, design, testing and implementation of assignments.
• Ensure Change Control and operational procedures are followed for all production-related changes.

Responsibilities:

• Modify/create subsystems to resolve production problems, accommodate business area requirements and/or changes to functionality, file specifications and report formats.
• Test new/modified subsystems to verify functionality and data integrity. Analyze results to ensure specifications have been met accurately. Meet with user areas to review required functionality and validate results.
• Meet with business areas and discuss new requirements. Identify impact to subsystems, document high level requirements, highlight issues and determine effort required. Discuss technical solutions with manager where applicable and trouble shoot problems accordingly.
• Prepare program elements for production following standards and procedures. Document program changes and report specifications and attend turnover meetings.
• Prepare status reports, communicate issues to management. Interact with peers, share ideas, problems issues, etc.

Education:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or in related discipline.

Technical Qualifications:

• Extensive experience with COBOL, CICS, JCL/Procs – 10+ years.
• Proven capability in DB2 – 10+ years.
• In-depth experience in design and development of batch database systems.
• Full project life cycle experience in applications handling high data volumes
• Experience with the SAS development is a big plus
• Strong data analytics skills is a big plus
