Experience with an ERP system in a complex financial environment.

Experience and Other Skills Required

Six years of experience in a university, public or governmental setting with knowledge of fund accounting procedures, including three years of management/supervisory experience with the ability to optimize staff performance.

Excellent interpersonal, customer service and both verbal and written communication skills.

A commitment to excellence and attention to detail.

Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial management and internal controls.

Knowledge of state and federal policies and procedures.

Description of Job Duties

1. Analyzes business operations and identifies improvements for departmental processes and users.

2. Develop and oversee training classes for front office users, such as Chart of Accounts and Monthly Financial Report Reconciliation.

3. Assists with the fiscal year end closeout and the preparation and review of the annual financial report.

4. Compiles the financial information and prepares the entries for the quarterly and annual USAS / ABEST . Ensures reports reconcile to AFR . Monitor to ensure eligibility of reimbursement items.

5. Manage the state appropriations and ensure timely receipt of funds. Develop good working relationships with contacts at the Comptroller’s Office.

6. Review and approves the reconciliations and entries for the accounting staff.

7. Assist with the development of the Fiscal Management Operations Guide.

8. Provides support to institutional committees.

9. Identifies appropriate internal accounting controls to protect resources and to detect and eliminate errors in accounting practices; provides mechanism to monitor and enforce compliance.

10. Supports other institutional goals and projects as assigned by Financial Affairs Leadership.

11. Assist the departments with understanding the accounting system and their reconciliation reports. Assist with year-end training workshop

12. Implement the required changes in reporting to comply with GASB .

13. Assist Director with the integrity of the accounting systems (PeopleSoft and USAS ) to control financial resources and facilitate financial reporting. Perform audits when necessary.

14. Supervise, train and evaluate staff performance with an emphasis on strong customer service by every person in every job every day. Evaluate employees’ performance, monitor their work flow to make changes in job duties as needed to meet the various deadlines, mentor and provide staff development.

15. Prepares the monthly financial report due to System.

16. Follow and promote Business Affairs’ guiding principles through hiring, management and all day-to-day operations.

17. Along with Financial Services, oversee the Treasury Module of PeopleSoft FMS , including the translation of business requirements into functional design specifications and the oversight of testing for new and existing functions as needed. Develop an excellent working knowledge of the General Ledger module. Develop a good working knowledge of other connected modules such as AP, TE, AM and KK.
