What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

You’ll arrive at Desert Fuels early the morning. Your first task is to check in with your team to see how they are performing and if they need any help. After that you will begin on the in depth analysis of cash flows which includes reconciling bank accounts, posting customer and supplier payments, and projecting cash flows for the next week. After that you will reach out to our financial institutions requesting the funds for the day/week. After that you will begin working on tasks (assigned by other team members) and supporting them with doing analysis and research. A typical question would be, “Reseach why we have a loss on Invoice 123456. I thought we should have had a profit. Did we bill it incorrectly?” From there you would meet with the President about a new project to work on. Maybe analysis on sales, or maybe help tweaking a report to make it more accurate for actionable information. Then take a lunch at many of the restaurants nearby or munch your own lunch if you brought it.

In the afternoon you will enter some Journal Entries from transactions that have been made throughout the day and reconcile some transactions from our suppliers. Then continue working with a state or government audit request and compile information for the audit. Then in the last part of the day, you might work on some programming to streamline processes or come up with a new way of doing things to make your team more effective and efficient. At random times throughout the day you will be receiving calls for quick meetings with other team members and to help answer questions on projects they may be working on. Those come sporadically throughout the day.

This is a typical sample day, but there are hundreds of projects that the Senior Accountant will be working on any given day. One thing for sure is that there will never be a dull moment nor a lack of different and unique things to work on.
