Scientist, Antibody Discovery & Protein Engineering

Summary of Position:

Scholar Rock is seeking a talented Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/Antibody Engineering Scientist to join Scholar Rock’s research team in discovering and developing novel biologic therapies, called “supracellular activators” that target protein growth factors in the disease microenvironment. The successful candidate will be deeply involved in the discovery and engineering of novel antibodies that specifically modulate the function of disease-causing growth factors in such therapeutic areas as fibrosis, musculoskeletal diseases, and autoimmunity.

Position Responsibilities:

As a member of our discovery team, the candidate will:

  • Contribute to design, management and execution of antibody discovery and optimization campaigns either internally or in collaboration with CROs to support biologics drug discovery pipeline
  • Purify and characterize antibodies for biochemical, biophysical and biological (in vitro biochemical or cell based assays) properties
  • Contribute to the design, expression and biochemical characterization of bi-specific antibodies
  • Independently design and execute projects to support drug discovery programs
  • Organize and present data at team or company meetings and represent the company at external scientific meetings.
  • Maintenance of laboratory records, protocols and summaries

Candidate Requirements:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular/Cell Biology, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • At least 2 or more years of laboratory and/or industry experience in drug discovery research.
  • Experience/Expertise in phage and/or yeast display, hybridoma or B-cell cloning technology to perform antibody discovery and/or antibody engineering projects.
  • Experience in antibody expression & purification using column chromatography.
  • Antibody characterization experience using different analytical techniques (SDS-PAGE, Western blot, ELISA, Octet & FACS analysis)
  • Experience characterizing and optimizing pharmaceutic attributes of candidate therapeutic antibodies for multiple characteristics such as affinity, effector function, immunogenicity and manufacturability.
  • Experience in bi-specific antibody generation and characterization a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project independently in a fast-paced matrixed environment and work in close collaboration with biologists & pharmacologists in cross-functional teams
  • Strong candidates will possess scientific curiosity, attention to detail, creative problem solving skills and leadership potential.Strong communication skills, written and oral.
