Job Description:

Bennett Aerospace, Inc . has an opening for a highly motivated Scientific Programmer for the Army Corps of Engineers , in execution of its mission in Vicksburg, MS. The Candidate will work from a remote location in the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina.

The successful candidate shall provide all labor and expertise needed to support and execute bioinformatics analyses for this project.

Responsibilities:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • The successful candidate will be able to work independently from a remote location with government information systems and tools.
  • Will require innovative and independent approaches to managing and completing project tasks.
  • Candidate will have experience using R.
  • Additionally, will have experience with coding in Python, Ruby, Lua, Go, or a similar high level language.
  • Provide technical information as to the proper use of R packages and information about parameters and functions.
  • Will develop binding site models for protein receptors that may be activated or inhibited by military relevant chemicals such as 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene.
  • Analyze transcriptomic and in vitro high throughput screening data.
  • Will also encode biological information into the Adverse Outcome Pathway Ontology and the Developmental Toxicology Ontology.
  • The employee will prepare reports and manuscripts explaining results of research efforts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications:
Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • BS with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in writing, modifying, and debugging software for client applications. Use source debuggers and visual development environments. Test and document software for client applications. Write code to create single-threaded, multi-threaded or user interface event driven applications, either stand-alone and those which access servers or services

Travel Requirements:

  • Non local travel to attend meetings within the government and with project stakeholders may be required

Medical Screening Requirements:

  • SM A 21 blood panel
  • General health screening including vision and hearing baseline screenings

Security Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a background security screening

Abilities and Skills:

  • Able to work with diverse technical and administrative teams and provide quality input and recommendations aimed at improving overall program success.
  • Must be articulate, adaptable, and able to work with a variety of research professionals in academia, government, and industry.
  • Strong intellectual interest in computer and scientific disciplines;
  • Exceptionally Strong written and verbal English communication skills;
  • Able to initiate open discussion with internal and external customers to understand and troubleshoot problems; and
  • Excellent administrative computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and e-mail software. Expert in spreadsheet development, manipulation, and management also highly desired.

The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center as well as for other federal agencies, state and municipal authorities, and with U.S. industry through innovative work agreements. ERDC research is developing innovative solutions for a safer, better world.
