This position establishes a state-level SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Coordinator with responsibilities that include: providing education, training, support, and technical assistance to new and existing SANEs and SANE programs; partnering with victim service agencies, schools of nursing, and community colleges to advance training available; establishing self as state-level resource for SANEs and SART (Sexual Assault Resource Teams); functioning as department liaison and program consult with healthcare providers and systems related to victim-centered medical and forensic response and treatment of sexual assault victims; review and develop or update policies, clinical guidelines, and administrative rules that apply to healthcare organizations’ procedures related to proper responses to victims of violence; and promoting best practices in order to establish consistency among programs.

Selectives
185 Epidemiology

6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in epidemiology, which involves:

  • The surveillance for respiratory diseases, vector-born diseases, enteric diseases, antimicrobial-resistant agents, or other infectious or non-infectious diseases
  • The development of protocols and procedures for data collection and analysis, ongoing analysis of data using a variety of databases and statistical analysis programs
  • The development and dissemination of written reports, graphs, tables, etc.

AND

535 Public Health

6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both related to improving, maintaining, and protecting the general condition of health within society, either on a personal, institutional, organizational, or community basis. Experience may be gained from direct provision of health care or from other ancillary programs and support mechanisms such as government public health departments.

AND

872 Registered Nurse

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and experience equal to one year of full-time professional clinical experience in a correctional environment or in one or in a combination of the following nursing specialties areas: epidemiology, geriatrics, maternal/child health, nursing education, pediatrics, public health, mental health/psychiatrics, intellectual disability;

OR

an equivalent combination of the required education and experience, substituting one year of full-time experience for thirty semester hours or equivalent of education; no substitution for the one year of full-time experience in a correctional environment or in one or in a combination of the specialty areas listed above;
OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch at the Iowa Veteran’s Home that includes experience equal to five years of full-time work as a Registered Nurse. The Iowa Veteran’s Home’s service/duty requirements are not applicable to other institutions or agencies for qualification purposes.
