Revenue Agent 1 – Gainesviile Regional Office

This Job Announcement is to fill Revenue Agent 1 positions in the Gainesville Regional Office and is open to the PUBLIC.

Position Duties

The Revenue Agent 1 determines tax liability or collects taxes from individuals or business firms, according to prescribed laws and regulations. This is the entry level of the Revenue Agent job series. Incumbents at this level may require additional training or experience to gain full proficiency in some or all of the job responsibilities.

In addition to the duties above, incumbents will be responsible for financial customer service, researching tax liabilities, collecting unpaid taxes, and initiating enforced collection activities including garnishments and bank levies. Duties include corresponding with taxpayers, their representatives, banking institutions, and court offices by mail, phone, or in person. Duties require high levels of computer research skills, customer service skills, analytical skills, and independent judgment. Occasional local travel will be required.

Minimum Entry Qualifications

One year of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, tax, law, collections or a related area (business, finance, economics, math, legal studies/tax law)
AND
a passing score on the Revenue Agent Test

OR

Associate’s degree in accounting, bookkeeping or related area (business, finance, economics, math, legal studies/tax law) from an accredited college
AND
a passing score on the Revenue Agent Test
