Main Responsibilities

This role requires a combination of regional knowledge, newswriting and research skills, and is pivotal to ensuring that BBC Monitoring creates products that deliver high value to users. On a day-to-day basis, you will contribute to BBC Monitoring’s coverage of Latin America by monitoring local media for news developments, and information about key personalities and media outlets.

You will prepare background information and create products in a range of formats in collaboration with other BBCM journalists. You will also be involved in integrating video, images, graphics and data into BBCM’s output.

You will be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date database of personalities, organisations and source information from the target area, using the best technology for gathering and organising information.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have an excellent knowledge of English and either Spanish or Portuguese and interest in international news and media developments in Latin America. (Knowledge of both Spanish and Portuguese would be an advantage.) You are someone who is good with detail and has the ability to spot a story.

You must be a good communicator and team-worker, with strong interpersonal skills. Reporting to the Editorial Lead, you will also be expected to work closely with BBC colleagues in other editorial departments.

Willingness and enthusiasm to embrace new ways of working and new technology to analyse information and produce content is essential.
