Research Engineer

The Institute for Transportation (InTrans) is a $17 million research organization at Iowa State University that includes eight centers and eight programs. InTrans conducts transportation-related research and outreach, and addresses the education and workforce development needs of future transportation professionals. InTrans’ mission is to develop and implement innovative methods, materials, and technologies for improving transportation system efficiency, safety, reliability, and sustainability while improving the learning environment of students, faculty, and staff in transportation-related fields.

The individual in this position will serve as the Research Engineer and provide technical support to the research activities for InTrans as well as provide technical expertise to the Iowa DOT Research section by assisting in the development, coordination, management, and administration, transportation research projects.

Intrans staff members are nationally recognized experts in transportation engineering, planning, safety, systems management and operation, and policy. These staff excel in combining their knowledge and resources with other university-based organizations, transportation agencies, consulting firms, and industry to develop and manage robust research teams. InTrans partners with public, private, academic and professional organization in its research and outreach activities.

The successful candidate will possess an engineering background and possess excellent communication skills. This person will have the ability to work in a team environment and have good project management skills. In addtion, this position will require a Professional Engineer’s License, P.E.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience.

• Experience in applying technical skills and engineering concepts

• Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
