Research Engineer

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics. Master’s degree in Engineering or Physics preferred. Familiarity with machining or working with machinists preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Research experience in orthopaedic biomechanics and in vivo (animal/human) research necessary. Computer skills including programming, statistics, research methodology and data acquisition are also necessary. One to two year’s experience in Orthopedic Biomechanics. Previous experience with servo-hydraulic materials test systems. Previous experience with digital analysis of medical image processing including CT Scans, MRI’s, and Fluoroscopy.

Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, coordinates laboratory experiments from the initial design phase to the presentation of the results. The Research Engineer will be responsible for designing instrumentation and techniques that are necessary for data acquisition, clinical evaluation and the treatment of patients with musculoskeletal disorders. Performs scientific investigative research in orthopaedic biomechanics and image processing (bio-signal processing, Electrocardiogram (ECG) and functional brain mapping.) Researches literature in the field, participates in the design of experimental protocols and develops new procedures to carry out established research objectives. Conducts experiments using in vitro and or in vivo techniques; collects and analyzes data using statistical methodology. May assist in writing presentations and papers for publication based on the research performed.
