Research Associate/Health Care Data Analyst

Research Associate/Healthcare Data Analyst extensively utilizes database technologies to acquire and transform the data into consistent data formats to power dashboards and reports. Gathers, analyzes and compiles healthcare and provider data to develop and evaluate healthcare programs and policies. Works closely with the other members of the team to provide meaningful data for clinical and cost studies, quality, and process improvement initiatives. Obtains, understands and communicates reporting specifications from government agencies and other entities.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common healthcare and insurance reporting and claims processing results. Ability to respond to inquiries from internal users. Ability to effectively present information to management and/or end users.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar, line and other graphical representation of data.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Analytical / Interpretive Skills: Ability to analyze and interpret the raw data and data trends to properly communicate to the management and end users to create action oriented plans that will result in positive movement of data measures. Also, have the ability to understand the business and health policy implications and goals of the data being presented.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel software, including the use of pivot tables and other advanced data manipulation techniques; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Access; Microsoft PowerPoint, SAS, SQL, SSRS and Adobe Software Suite.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s in Informatics, Data Management, Health Care Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or related field is required.

Two (2) years of technical or professional experience in a directly related field. Essential qualifications for this job are analytical thinking, attention to details, communication, computer proficiency and research skills.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Demonstrated ability to use analytic tools (e.g. Excel, SQL, Access, SAS)

Extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience, including direct responsibility for programming, analysis, and extraction of healthcare data using various data extraction and mining tools/products. Competency in database architecture, healthcare claims data, and information technology is beneficial to your success in this position.

Experience in Healthcare.

Preferred Qualifications

At least four (4) years of progressive programming experience using various data extraction and mining tools/products.

Experience using full SQL capabilities and comprehension of efficient SQL data warehouse access.

At least 2 years experience working with healthcare data or in a healthcare environment.

Strongly prefer an understanding of Medicaid and Medicare claims data systems; Working knowledge of IT systems, database design, or data structures; Strongly prefer knowledge of and experience with health care data subject area industry code sets, e.g., (RXNORM, LOINC, SNOMED, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10)
