Research Associate

JOB PURPOSE

Ensures the work location functions efficiently by performing a variety of duties using a wide range of procedures when conducting experiments and analyzing data. Assembles and analyzes data of specific problems while initiating actions within standard procedures. The Research Associate job operates at three job grade levels with increasing responsibility, complexity, impact and knowledge/skills/competencies/experience based on level.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conducts experiments, to completion, according to specific procedures, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.

2. Maintains, organizes and summarizes results of experiments, noting problem areas, while recommending actions to be taken within standard procedures.

3. May hire, organize and supervise work of Research Assistants and/or temporary employees ensuring work is performed in safe and efficient manner.

4. Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work location.

OTHER DUTIES:

1. May be requested to assist in conducting experiments at other Research sites, laboratory areas, or groups.

2. May be requested to maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.

PROBLEM SOLVING

1. Determine how to conduct experiments to meet researchers needs within allotted time constraints.

2. Identify appropriate uses of company resources when conducting experiments.

DECISION MAKING

1. Make daily decisions associated with conducting experiments.

2. Decide priority of work activities.

Job Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE

1. Appropriate agricultural degree with 2 – 4 years experience in related field or equivalent level of relevant education and experience.

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as math and computer skills.

3. Broad theoretical grounding and understanding in specialized or technical areas (i.e. chemistry, biology, engineering)

4. May be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.

5. Ability to operate farm machinery preferred but not required.
