This is a Research Associate position. Seeking an individual with mathematical prowess, strong modeling computation skills, self-initiative, attention to details and ability to integrate experimental work from various projects into modeling. Also, to collaborate within multi-university Center and lead modeling of a test-bed platform for making engineered API particle laden edible strip films. The person will be reporting to the Site-Leader, NSF-ERC on Structured Organic Particulate Systems at NJIT.

Essential Functions:
The main function is to develop mathematical models for strip-film casting drying process and disintegration dissolution of drug particle-laden strip films so as to develop predictive capabilities for the NSF ERC test-bed platform for strip films. Carry out model calibration, simulations, and predictions as well as validation of the models. The person will collaborate with graduate students and integrate experimental data/observations into the modeling framework. Additionally, the person is expected to contribute to existing collaborative projects and interact with graduate students and faculty to develop strong modeling capabilities in other pharmaceutical industry related projects.

Additional Functions:
Responsibilities include:
Leading the development, calibration, and validation of mathematical models for various particle formation processes such as wet media milling and micronization, film casting/drying process, and drug dissolution from particle-laden strip films. Perform sensitivity analysis with simulations and identify critical raw material process parameters.

Integrating experimental data, knowledge, and raw material/processing parameters into the modeling framework.

Interfacing and helping with supervision of graduate students on their projects regarding the modeling aspects.

Be the main point of contact (POC) for all mathematical modeling and computational methods.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Engineering with significant mathematical modeling experience

Excellent skills in code development are required

Preferred Qualifications:
The person must have:
Strong experience in formulating and numerically solving mathematical models for various transport (heat, mass, momentum) processes. Experience in either population balance model (PBM) and/or discrete element model (DEM) is highly desirable. Knowledge of optimization software/tools is a plus.

Excellent skills in one or more of the following numerical methods: finite difference, finite element, or finite volume. Strong experience in the use of Matlab, FEMLAB, Fluent, and other commercial software packages is highly desirable.

Good command of the English language, both written and oral. Multiple first-authored journal papers is a plus.

At the university’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted, where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Essential Characteristics:
Must abide by the university’s core values which include excellence, integrity, civility, social responsibility, diversity and communication
