Laboratory of Endocrine and Neuropsychiatric Disorders, Division of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy at Xavier University of Louisiana invites application for a full-time Research Assistant position to support the ongoing laboratory research activities. We use an integrative behavioral, pharmacological, biochemical and molecular approach to understand how certain food and drug rewards impact brain and behavior. Various animal models of feeding, affect and alcohol drinking are utilized. This would be an ideal position for a recent graduate who is looking for some research experience before a med or graduate school. Primary job functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform a broad range of routine laboratory tasks and procedures (e.g., ordering, maintaining records, animal experiments, cellular and molecular assays, data collection, data analysis and dissemination of results through conference presentation and publications).
  • Learn new skills and methods relevant to the needs of different projects.
  • Guide undergraduate students and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in pharmacology, neuroscience, physiology or related discipline.
  • Significant laboratory experience using rodents in research.
  • Attention to details with excellent laboratory and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written scientific communication.
  • Hardworking, team-oriented, enthusiastic and self-motivated.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertize in rodent’s injections (SC, IP, IC) and surgical procedures.
  • Competent in running molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (DNA isolation and transfection, genotyping, RTqPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, electrophoresis of DNA) independently.
  • Experienced in various rodent’s models of feeding, alcohol drinking and affective states.
