Reporting & Communications Manager

Incumbents are responsible for leading, managing and analyzing data collection, and designing print and web material including, but not limited to, an annual report, fact sheets, social media content, and other communication materials. Incumbent performs a variety of assignments in developing, packaging and disseminating information which may have an impact on agency public and/or governmental relations. Incumbent researches and answers inquiries, complaints and resolves public information issues. Incumbent interacts with the public, media, political entities, and/or governmental organizations; may assist agency with legislative requirement and issues and/or may supervise subordinate employees.

Example of Duties:

  • Furnishes the public and government entities with information on the objectives and activities of the Attorney General’s Office.
  • Conducts research and data collection
  • Develops and oversees the use of surveys and other data collection tools for the purpose of research analysis, statistical analysis and follow-through on research findings.
  • Sets goals, establishes priorities, manages resources, develops concepts and approaches, reviews projects progress and results; makes management decisions.
  • Designs and/or uses questionnaires, surveys or other instruments used in the collection and analysis of data.
  • Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results.
  • Performs statistical analysis by applying appropriate protocols in analyzing data and reaching accurate conclusions.
  • Draws/creates and/or selects graphic charts, working drawings, illustrations, maps, etc. for publications/displays or similar projects; adapts sketches/drawings to meet specific technical or publication requirements.
  • Edits written material for accuracy, format, content and arrangement of material.
  • Works to improve website content and functionality.
  • Participates in communication strategies.
  • Monitors and evaluates operations, programs, processes and/or practices for quality and effectiveness; makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Supervises subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.

  • use automated software applications including graphic and/or desktop publishing software such as Adobe design applications, WordPress, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • edit written material for accuracy, format and arrangement of material
  • apply applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures
  • work with or contribute to a work group or team to complete assigned task(s)
  • understand and utilize principles, theories, and practices of group dynamics and/or team development
  • facilitate or lead meetings, teams, or work groups to encourage participation, build mutual trust, respect and cooperation among participants
  • develop approaches for implementation of an idea or program
  • deliver presentations or trainings using acceptable methods and techniques
  • knowledge of state programs and resources
  • supervise others by assigning/directing work; conducting employee evaluations, staff training and development, taking appropriate disciplinary/corrective actions, making hiring/termination recommendations, etc.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
