Regional Sales Manager, Medicare

This position oversees sales and broker activities for Medicare products and services. Key areas of focus include execution of growth and retention strategies, monitoring activities and analyzing results to measure effectiveness, member and broker relations, compliance with State and Federal regulations, sales strategies to support the Company brand, and processes that ensure Medicare beneficiaries understand the product they are purchasing from sales and marketing staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Medicare product sales and broker activities to achieve sales and retention goals, support the Company’s brand, and effectively promote Medicare products and services.
  • Utilizes LEAN management principles to streamline processes, and facilitate continuous improvement. Assists sales staff with walk-ins, phone requests, and sales presentations.
  • Executes sales strategies directed towards members, brokers and the general public. Monitors activities and analyzes results to measure effectiveness. Identifies high-opportunities to support business growth, uncovers niche markets, and pursues growth opportunities.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of Federal and State regulations, health insurance markets, field concepts and practices, and industry trends. Ensures sales activities are in compliance with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and all state and federal regulations. Attends sales seminars, workshops and reads relevant publications.
  • Builds relationships with members, providers and the community to maximize market penetration and promote the company’s brand, products, and services.
  • Develops, trains, and monitors effectiveness of brokers promoting Medicare products. Ensures broker activities are in compliance with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and all state and federal regulations.
  • Participates in various external committees and community events, represents company philosophy, and preserves visibility within the community. Becomes known as a visible and recognized Medicare resource and trusted advisor.
  • Follows sales standards and written policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates closely with other Medicare Regional Sales Managers, Marketing & Communications, Product Development and Customer Service teams to ensure collaboration, coordination of initiatives, consistency in messaging and brand, and effective promotion of Medicare products and services. Recommends product or service enhancements, service area expansions, and other new products to improve customer satisfaction and sales.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Responsible for oversight, management, development, implementation, and communication of department programs.
  • Responsible for hiring, staff development, coaching, performance reviews, corrective actions, and termination of employees. Provide feedback, including regular one-on-ones and performance evaluations, for direct reports.
  • Develop annual department budgets. Monitor spending versus the planned budgeted throughout the year and take corrective action where needed.
  • Coordinate business activities by maintaining collaborative partnerships with key departments.
  • Responsible for process improvement and working with other departments to improve interdepartmental processes. Utilize visual boards and daily huddles to monitor key performance indicators and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Actively participate as a key team member in Manager/Supervisor meetings.
  • Actively participate in various strategic and internal committees in order to disseminate information within the organization and represent company philosophy.
  • Supporting Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:
    Work Experience: Minimum of five years’ work experience in sales or marketing in the insurance or related field. Managed care experience preferred. Management or supervisory experience preferred.

    Education, Certificates, Licenses: Bachelor degree is preferred. Licensed with the State of residence as a health insurance producer in order to represent the product and company, or obtain such licensing within 90 days of employment. Valid Motor Vehicles License.

    Knowledge: Strong written and verbal communication, and presentation skills. Skilled at connecting and networking. Fundamental math skills, including percentages, ratios, statistics, graphing and spreadsheet skills. Proficient in a Windows Operating System Environment, and Microsoft Office Applications. Solid organizational and time management skills. Ability to work as part of a team with strong relationship building skills. Thorough understanding of health insurance issues, both national and State, and the factors that affect the insurance market.

    Environment: Work inside in a general office setting with ergonomically configured equipment. Travel is required approximately 35% of the time.

    Physical Requirements: Stoop and bend . Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time while performing core job functions. Repetitive motions to include typing, sorting and filing. Light lifting and carrying of files and business materials. Ability to read and comprehend both written and spoken English. Communicate clearly and effectively.
