Records Clerk

PER COUNTY RULES, THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1,

$30,596.80 ANNUALLY.
County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Comp Ord 1.3.5.
The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for Records Clerk to fill several vacancies in the Probation Department. This list may be used to fill future vacancies in both the Probation Department and the Health and Human Services Agency.

Records Clerks work in reception and create and maintain records to provide authorized agencies with information from files by telephone and/or written requests. Incumbents remove, separate, and summarize juvenile/adult offenders’ statistical information from a variety of source documents. In addition, Records Clerks provide confidential juvenile/adult offenders’ information to Probation Officers, law enforcement agencies and attorneys.

Education and/or Experience :

  • One (1) year of recent full-time general clerical experience performing duties such as typing/keyboarding, filing, reception, and records management; OR ,
  • Completion of an administrative, office, or front desk certificate program from a recognized community or business college.
  • Note: An associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for experience listed above. You MUST attach an unalterable copy of your college diploma or transcripts at the time of application.

    Working Environment:

    • Work involves daily and frequent contact with Probation clients or adult and juvenile probationers, by phone or in person
    • May work in a locked correctional facility
    • May require shift work that includes days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends

    • Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness.
    • Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a thorough background investigation.

    Written Examination Process:

    Invitations to take the exam will be determined by the responses you provide on the supplemental application form using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process and pass the exam, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.

    The multiple-choice test will assess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: reading comprehension, ability to follow written instructions, basic math, general office procedures, English usage, basic computer skills, checking and comparing, and customer service.

    PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY:

    The written exam will be offered the weekend of May 27, 2017 . Information on the test time and location will be provided to candidates when they self-schedule their test date online. Candidates will be notified when to login and self-schedule their test. There will be no make-up exams allowed after the scheduled test date.

    Evaluation:

    The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a twelve (12) month employment list based on scores received from the written examination.
