R&D Software Engineer

Job Description:

Take on assorted technology support responsibilities for Broadcom’s Wifi software product builds, release metrics reporting services and related BU-owned compute and application infrastructure. Includes extensive Git administration, Python Scripting, Linux Administration, Gcc cross-compilation and verbal coordination activities.

Will support an environment of Linux software developers and electrical engineers distributed around the world in multiple time zones.

Maintain and enhance software build and compute services in Broadcom’s Wifi chip and driver development environment. Work within a team of experienced Software Tool and Release Engineers performing Linux Administration, Makefile customization, Python scripting and Linux service deployment activities. Partner with Software Engineering and Project Management staff to deploy new compute services, track development activities and identify technical risks in a constantly evolving work environment. Coordinate large activities with IT and R&D support staff to ensure network and compute infrastructure stability as new IT initiatives are rolled out.

  • Monitor and improve a 24/7/365 Linux build machine cluster with continuous gcc cross-compilation.
  • Provide continuous Git/Gerrit or SVN/Reviewboard assistance to local and overseas Wifi Developers.
  • Deploy new projects that change software development tools and departmental compute infrastructure.
  • Assist users with Coverity static analysis issues, code conflicts and related work instructions.
  • Research, evaluate and deploy Open Source or Vendor tools that can improve developer productivity.
  • Upgrade utilities and custom software services written in Python, Bash and Linux Web technologies.
  • Monitor the team email inbox and handle emergency technical requests or reported service outages.
  • Become and leader for a portion of our operations that includes OS administration and documentation.
  • Work equally well as an individual, a team member and a technical resource contributor for projects.

Requirement: B.S. or equivalent in Science or Engineering field with 6+ years of related experience.

Gcc coding, Gcc cross-compilers, Makefiles, Linux Kernel configuration and packaging, File archiving.

Perl/Python scripting, Bash/Tcsh Shell, Linux OS Administration, Basic Windows Administration.

Excellent communication and technical writing skills in daily email, work doc or verbal formats.

Networking TCP/NFS/SMB/SSH/Rsync experience. Basic Windows or MacOS Administration a plus.
