R&D Engineer

Position Description:

The role of R&D Engineer will be to assist in creating lens prototype designs using digital surfacing technology. This position will support the creation of new or reference optical functions.

Main Tasks / Responsibilities:

• Perform optical lens Rx functions, to create prototype lens samples as requested. Work with R&D Prototype, Roadmap & Consumer Experience groups to discuss, propose and create desired lens configurations using digital surfacing technology. Duties include; servicing, calibrating and operating surfacing/finishing equipment, per GE Rx team protocols. Preparing reference & prototype lens configurations, interacting with R&D groups to discuss & propose lens samples and documenting lens processing procedures used
• Be proficient with digital surfacing software and equipment, so that prototype and non standard lens surfacing requests can be performed
• Confirm compliance with all design specifications for prototype lens samples generated

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical field (ie: Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, etc.); equivalent experience in lieu of a technical degree will be considered.
• Documentation of process and experimental results with proper lab notebook entries, technical memos, and presentations
• Optics experience is a plus
• Demonstrate a spirit of innovation, a willingness to suggest and the ability to support the implementation of modifications of existing equipment and processes used in the innovation process
• Proactive in learning about many technologies
• Excellent English verbal and written communication
• Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
• Ability to work with all members of working groups, skill levels, and expertise in an international environment
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize
• Demonstrates sound judgment and decision making skills
• Flexibility in work assignments to accommodate group and individual goals
• Proficient in relevant equipment/system software & operating systems and Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint
• Follow all federal, local and company safety training and protocols
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds at a time
• Ability to train at an international location for periods of up to eight weeks at a time. Willingness and ability to travel domestically or internationally, up to 20%
