Responsibilities

The Range and Satellite ControlWork independently with both internal and external customers and with technical support, as a technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or project leader. Lead or organize technical efforts or project teams. Interface between customers and Aerospace technical and management staff. May mentor less experienced MTS and serve as role model.

Key Functions

  • Participate in the development of an architecture framework that captures mission-derived architecture capability needs and use this framework as a basis for architecture studies
  • Provide systems engineering and technical services to the Spacelift Range and Network Systems (RN) for Launch and Test Range (LTRS) and Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) program activities
  • Assist the Architecture & Engineering group with future and long range planning, capabilities production assessments, concept definition and analyses of technologies for satellite control and launch operations
  • Support the development of methodologies to identify mission-derived architecture-level capability needs and translate them to system level requirements
  • Participate in system trade-off studies for system designs or protocols, validation of network system requirements, providing programmatic recommendations on network architectures and solutions based on technical performance assessments
  • Provide engineering expertise to systems architecture; interface engineering, system specifications, requirements documents, and DoD/AF models for RN program development and sustainment activities
  • Support analysis, simulation, systems engineering, and system design of telemetry and communication systems for military, civil, and commercial satellite command and control applications
  • Participate in engineering teams to evaluate and recommend solutions to resolve engineering issues identified on AFSCN and LTRS command & control, communication and telemetry systems
  • Provide engineering support to RN systems and service acquisition strategy development, Request for Proposal (RFP) development, and source selection activities
  • Work closely with members of a diverse team comprising military officers and Government civilians from SMC, 30SW, and 45SW, prime contractors, the SE&I contractor, and MITRE
  • Actively network with contractors, government agencies, and the Engineering and Technology Group to address issues and provide the customer with technical and programmatic analyses

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science, math, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years of systems engineering and/or relevant technical experience is required
  • Understanding of DoD acquisition processes or related experience in Headquarters Air Force Space Command or Space and Missile Systems Center
  • Experience in performing independent architecture analyses and studies
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate Aerospace resources and capabilities to prepare and present technical data
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective interpersonal relations with customer, Aerospace and contractors
  • Strong technical and team leadership skills are required to scope, build, direct, and lead multi-disciplinary teams to timely actionable conclusions
  • Candidate must have ability to effectively communicate and present technical results and recommendations effectively orally and in writing
  • Current Secret clearance is required with ability to obtain Top Secret and SSBI clearance within 1 year
  • Ability to travel required.

Preferred

  • An advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or related technical discipline
  • Relevant education or experience in launch and satellite control systems architecture and systems engineering is highly desirable
  • Relevant technical experience in systems engineering and architecting is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with data architectures, data standards, and cognizant of Industry and Government strategic plans for data products
  • A demonstrated knowledge of current launch range issues
  • Prior program office experience with space-ground systems issues
  • Understanding of space systems architecture development
  • Proven ability to work effectively with senior government customers, contractors and Aerospace
  • Familiarity of operations, maintenance and sustainment
