Position Summary:

The Engineering Compliance Manager is responsible for the management and execution of Black Diamond’s product compliance activities for the Ski, Mountain, or Climbing product categories. This individual is responsible for project management as well as leading all of the regulatory compliance tasks for product development and product life cycle management. He/she is expected to complete all required compliance functions in accordance with the product design objectives and within the published company development timeline. He/she will work in a cooperative team based working environment and based on his/her experience levels. He/she will be expected to assume a managing role within Black Diamond’s quality management system, and will manage the Engineering Support Service department.

Authorized and responsible to continuously improve upon and perform all duties according to BD Inc’s Quality, Safety and Employee Policies and procedures:

  • Responsible for managing the Engineering Support Services Department to properly support Black Diamond’s quality management system, document control and drafting department, ongoing regulatory compliance efforts, and to assist in the maintenance and improvement of Black Diamond’s existing products and processes.
  • Ensuring product compliance with global regulations including, but not limited to, CPSIA, Conflict Minerals, RoHS, and REACH
  • Responsible for gathering input on project priorities from other departments and for ensuring that Engineering personnel properly prioritize and allocate their time and the time of their outside vendors to meet these requirements, and to monitor and report on the status of these projects.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Engineering personnel assist the Product Design and Development Department with meeting necessary product compliance requirements and creating required documentation.
  • Authorized to approve expenses which are required to fulfill the department’s responsibilities and which are within the department budget.
  • Authorized to evaluate equipment for possible acquisition and is responsible for making recommendations regarding possible capital expenditures.
  • Responsible for performing Performance Evaluations (PEs) on all Direct Reports.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Engineering Support Services Department personnel perform their duties in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Black Diamond Quality Manual.
  • Qualifications:

    Education

    Required:

    Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related science

    Preferred:

    Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

    Work Experience

    Required:

    Five years of experience in manufacturing, process or quality engineering, including two years in project management and/or supervision is required.

    Skills and General Experience:

    Good skills in reading/writing, communication, troubleshooting, spreadsheets, word processing, problem solving, and CAD are necessary. Knowledge of engineering project management, administration and documentation, ISO 9001 quality management systems, CE PPE requirements/regulations, restricted substances regulations, CPSC voluntary recall management, and principles of corporate social responsibility required. Experience and knowledge of climbing, mountaineering, and/or skiing is required, active participant preferred.

    Alternative qualification : Seven or more years work experience in a manufacturing and engineering environment including at least 3 years experience in manufacturing processes may substitute for the required education.
