Position Title: Public Works Seattle – Volunteer Coordinator

Department: Artistic

Supervisor: Artistic Engagement Coordinator

Classification: Part-time/Temporary, Hourly/Non-Exempt

Rate of Pay: $13.00/hour for approx. 50 hours/month

Schedule of work: Mid-April 2017 through September 2017

POSITION SUMMARY: The volunteer coordinator is responsible for working in partnership with the Artistic Engagement Coordinator to plan, organize and direct the volunteer efforts associated with Public Works Seattle. This position will assess and meet the needs of the program through the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Organizes, coordinates and manages the recruitment of volunteers to support the various activities of Public Works Seattle including special events, marketing/communications, casting (auditions, call backs, rehearsals, performances), production (stage management)

 Works with social, civic and local organizations to develop and/or utilize volunteers

 Co-creates and implements orientation programs for all volunteers

 Maintains updated records on all volunteers and provides timely activity reports

 Sets up and attends volunteer meetings

 Develops and implements a volunteer evaluation and recognition program

 Prepares and distributes assignment materials

 Schedules all volunteer activity

 Co-creates and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service

 Evaluate all aspects of volunteer program to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate

 Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers by acting as their main point of contact for communications

 Conducts post-event calls to track successes and identify problems so that relationships are maintained and system improvements are made

 Generates appropriate volunteer opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the program

 Builds relationships with SRT staff to raise awareness and function of Public Works volunteers

 Monitors, supports, motivates and accredits volunteers and their work

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 Minimum High School Diploma or GED

 Paid/unpaid job-related experience such as managing volunteer programs, leading teams ororganizations, or providing logistical support for a long-term project and/or event

 Excellent communication skills

 Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people

 Experience managing or coordinating projects and volunteers

 An empathetic managerial style with individuals and communities and a personal commitment to social justice

 Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity

 Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks

 Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel

 Ability to cope with limited resources, seize opportunities and think creatively

 Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job

 Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions

 Must have valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally and out of the area

TIME COMMITMENTS:

 Hours will vary with an estimated need of 2-15 hours/week with responsibilities building from 01August through 10 September

 Must be available for special events, trainings, auditions, call backs, rehearsals, and final

performances Must attend meetings with Public Works Seattle leadership
