Public Information and Outreach Officer

The Office of the State Treasurer (herein referred to as “the Office”) is seeking a Public Information and Outreach Officer to promote the Office’s accomplishments, to interact with the media, and to coordinate the Office’s community outreach programs. If you have experience developing and disseminating high-profile information with the media and public, especially as a Public Information Officer, this position could be for you!

Principal Duties

As the Public Information and Outreach Officer, you will:

  • Administer public information, public relations, and communications.
  • Administer the community involvement and outreach for various programs.
  • Coordinate the media, advertising, public education and outreach efforts of the Office’s Unclaimed Property Division.
  • Serve as a primary spokesperson for the department.
  • Develop, coordinate, formulate, and implement media and communication strategies.
  • Researches, answers, and resolves public inquiries and complaints.
  • Serves as the liaison between the Office and the public, media, political entities, governmental organizations, and a variety of different groups and interests.
  • Act as a primary liaison with nonprofit agencies and financial institutions to lead the Offices’s efforts in consumer financial capability education.
  • Develop and maintain the Office’s social media channels and websites.

In addition, you may:

  • Represent the agency at formal and informal meetings and public hearings.
  • Assist the agency with legislative communications and legislative issues.

  • Have experience developing and implementing communication strategies for a high-profile company or government entity.
  • Have experience in public outreach and education programs.
  • Have experience managing professional social media channels and/or websites.

The Agency/Division

The Utah State Treasurer’s Office is responsible for the collection, safeguarding, investment and disbursement of state funds. This includes the management of banking for all state agencies. The Office also implements and operates several investment portfolios, including the Public Treasurer’s Investment Fund, and issues all debt obligations authorized on behalf of the State.

The Division of Unclaimed Property manages abandoned properties that are remitted to the State and works to return them to their rightful owners.

  • Working Conditions: Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Physical Requirements: Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
